Lulu Press Bans Desist, Detrans, & Detox, As Well As Deletes PEC’s Entire Account Containing Owed Royalties Over $1,000.00
Here we go again.
This morning Partners for Ethical Care received an email from print-on-demand publisher and distributor Lulu Press informing PEC that Desist, Detrans, & Detox: Getting Your Child Out of the Gender Cult, was found by Lulu’s “Questionable Content Team” to be “questionable material.”
PEC has responded to Lulu, informing them that Amazon issued PEC an apology, and relisted Desist, Detrans, & Detox, after making a similar error in judgment.
An even more concerning situation is that Lulu, unlike Amazon, did not only ban our book, but they appear to have deleted PEC’s entire account. PEC had sold roughly 170 copies of Desist, Detrans, & Detox on Lulu’s platform, to multiple continents, raising over $1,000.00 in royalties. When Amazon delisted our book, our account was still accessible and we expected that they would pay out the accrued royalties during their next scheduled payment cycle.
Lulu, on the other hand, has cut off access to the account and has so far not responded to customers' questions about their unfilled orders. The following screenshots were taken prior to and following Lulu's deletion of PEC's account.
Like Amazon, Lulu Press sells a number of books that PEC considers offensive. Partners for Ethical Care is dismayed to find titles like the following among Lulu’s listings.
We find these egregiously offensive. These books promote violence against women, children, and people of different races and sexual orientations. If the Content Team at Lulu does not find anything problematic about these and other similar titles, then we must find their offense at Desist, Detrans, & Detox to be both hypocritical and discriminatory.
